Policy Pulse: September 13, 2024

The Association of California Cities Orange County, in collaboration with the Orange County Grantmakers and the League of California Cities, warmly invites you to participate in a crucial facilitated roundtable session on the upcoming 2025 Orange County Equity Profile report. In 2019, the Orange County Grantmakers, a dedicated network of funders and philanthropists, launched the inaugural Orange County Equity Profile in partnership with the USC Equity Research Institute. This pioneering report provided vital insights into areas such as workforce readiness, accessibility, and housing—essential metrics for shaping our community’s future.

We are excited to announce that the 2025 update of this report will be released early next year, in partnership with a diverse coalition including the Orange County Business Council, CEO Leadership Alliance, UCI, Orange Coast College, the Orange County Community Foundation, and others. This refreshed profile will delve deeper into key equity indicators, connecting critical data with local initiatives in DEI, housing, homelessness, and beyond.

We are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see everyone next week at our sold-out 2024 Advocacy Trip to Washington D.C.! Your enthusiasm and participation are what make these events so special, and we’re excited for a week of productive and engaging experiences together.

For those who will not be able to join us, don’t worry—you won’t miss out! We will be sharing updates and highlights from the trip on our social platforms and in next week’s newsletter. Be sure to stay tuned.

A heartfelt thank you once again to everyone who registered and to our incredible sponsors and Board Level Affiliates for their support.

Anaheim's OCVibe Construction

The first phase of OCVibe’s $4 billion project is now in progress, aiming to transform the area around the Honda Center into a dynamic entertainment hub for Orange County. Spanning nearly 100 acres, this development will feature new performance venues, restaurants, hotels, and apartments.

Current construction includes two large parking garages with 4,500 spaces, set to support Honda Center events and the new Market Hall, which will offer diverse global cuisines. A $900 million investment is already in motion, with over 300 workers on-site daily. Future plans involve a 6,000-person concert hall, additional parking, and further performance venues.

By the end of 2025, the parking garages will be complete, with the Market Hall and concert hall opening by 2026. Smaller venues will follow in 2027, and a pedestrian bridge connecting the ARTIC station to the Honda Center is planned for 2028. Apartment construction is expected to start around 2029.

Anaheim’s sale of 16 acres to OCVibe in 2019 will eventually generate $10 million annually in tax revenue for the city. Later this year, developers will propose replacing an office building with additional housing and park space, potentially adding 2,250 more housing units.
