The City of Garden Grove broke ground for Phase 1 of the Civic Center Revitalization Project, which includes a new police department facility and parking structure. Mayor Steve Jones highlighted the project's importance in enhancing downtown, funded by Measure O.

Police Chief Amir El-Parra expressed gratitude for community support, while Edgemoor Managing Director Brian Dugan praised the project's collaboration design. Resident and Clark Construction's Marc Kersey looks forward to delivering the project, set for completion in March 2026.

Residents in Placentia may notice Hope Center outreach vans and Homeless Liaison Officers addressing non-emergent homelessness issues.

The Police Department is strengthing its partnership with the Hope Center to enhance homeless outreach and support North Orange County. This collaboration aims to efficiently transition individuals from the streets to housing, reducing 9-1-1 calls and allowing officers to focus on true emergencies.


 

To tackle healthcare workforce shortages in Orange County, CalOptima Health has granted Cal State Fullerton $5 million to support its nursing programs. This grant, distributed over five years, will provide 50 nursing students with annual $10,000 stipends, aiding them in completing their bachelor's degrees in nursing. The funds will also expand programs like Jump Start and Concurrent Enrollment, which accelerate the graduation of nursing students.


SoCalGas has launched the SoCal Climate Champions Grant Program, offering grants up to $50,000 for nonprofit organizations working on projects that redue greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, or enhance organic waste diversion within its service area. Since 2015, the program has awarded over $3 million across 160 grants.


Nonprofits have until June 21, 2024, and grants will be awarded in October. Recipients will receive funding, recognition, storytelling, opportunities, and support from SoCalGas volunteers.
