Southern California Edison: SONGS Decommissioning Tour

Thank you to Southern California Edison for hosting ACC-OC city officials and members for an informative and successful San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Decommissioning Tour. SCE provided the opportunity for our officials to delve into the intricacies of the decommissioning and dismantling process. This event was not only educational but also captivating, involving the process of safely transferring the used nuclear fuel into storage, as well as the eventual removal and disposal of radioactive components and materials from the site. ACC-OC is a member of the Spent Fuel Solutions Coalition, which advocates for a permanent solution for the spent fuel currently stored at SONGS.  Additionally, nine Orange County cities have adopted resolutions of support for the coalition, including the cities of Brea, Buena Park, Dana Point, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel, Newport Beach, San Clemente, and San Juan Capistrano.  If you are interested in joining the coalition personally or proposing a resolution of support for your city, please contact melinda@toddpriest.com for the next steps.

Upcoming Webinar: The Spent Fuel Solution Coalition is hosting a webinar on Monday, January 29th at 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. The webinar will host current and former officials from Finland and Sweden for an informational webinar on their interest in hosting a permanent repository for spent nuclear fuel in their communities.
